The Castrol brand, founded by Charles Cheers Wakefield in 1899 in London, is today undoubtedly one of the most popular in the world.
C.C.Wakefield & Co began producing lubricants in 1909, launching its first product under the Castrol brand. Interestingly, the name comes from castor oil – a key component of the product at that time. The motor oils were intended for internal combustion engines used in cars, motorcycles, and aviation technology.
In 1966, Castrol became part of the British company Burmah, and in 2000 it joined the BP (British Petroleum) group, which allowed the brand to strengthen its position in the global lubricant market. The BP group's portfolio also includes other well-known oil brands such as BP and Aral.
Today, Castrol's product range covers oils for passenger cars, including the EDGE, Magnatec, and GTX series, as well as transmission oils and engine additives. Castrol also offers an extensive range of lubricants and lubricating materials for a wide spectrum of transport and industrial applications.
With more than 12,000 employees and representations in 130 countries, Castrol continues to maintain its reputation as one of the leaders in the production of motor oils, thanks to its high quality, innovation, and variety of products that meet the needs of motorists around the world.
