Die Marke Elf existiert seit 1967 und ist heute ein Teil des französischen Energieunternehmens Total Energies. Im Jahr 2000 fusionierte Elf Aquitaine mit TotalFina, woraus TotalFinaElf entstand, das 2003 in Total und 2021 in TotalEnergies umbenannt wurde. Seitdem ist Elf eine der Hauptmarken von TotalEnergies neben Total.
Elf bietet Motoröle, Schmierstoffe und technische Flüssigkeiten für Autos, Motorräder, Nutz- und Spezialfahrzeuge sowie andere Transportmittel an. Die umfangreiche Produktpalette von Elf wird ständig erweitert und optimiert, um den wachsenden Anforderungen verschiedener Motoren und Aggregate gerecht zu werden und ihnen Schutz vor Verschleiß, Korrosion und Oxidation zu bieten.
Elf ist aktiv im Motorsport engagiert und fördert seine Produkte durch Auto- und Motorradrennen. Die Teilnahme an diesen Wettbewerben demonstriert nicht nur die Qualität der Produkte, sondern hebt auch hervor, dass die Eigenschaften dieser Öle selbst unter schwierigen Bedingungen effektiv sind. Genau im Autorennen begann Elf die Zusammenarbeit mit Renault. Seitdem wird Elf-Öl bei Renault (sowie Dacia) für die Erstbefüllung verwendet. Das bedeutet jedoch nicht, dass diese Öle nur für "französische" Autos geeignet sind. Eine breite Produktpalette wurde für die Motoren der meisten Fahrzeuge entwickelt, und diese Öle sollten entsprechend den Freigaben und Spezifikationen der Hersteller ausgewählt werden.
